You can share a Layout for similar design of map output, but you
cannot share the Map!
When I was creating the new map layouts I was using the original map
of Ithaca. But then I realized today that whenever I changed the
symbology or labeling properties or the data sets (polling locations,
tax parcels, etc) for a specific layout, I was changing the symbology or
labeling properties or what have you of the original map, thus I was
changing the symbology or labeling properties or what have you for the
other layouts that were using the original map (if I had polling
locations turned on the original Ithaca map, polling locations would
show up on all the other layouts). Was I supposed to generate a new map
for every new layout? Quote from student’s question.
Every time when you create a new map, you start a new Map session in
ArcGIS Pro! Otherwise, the new change you make will complete change the
map you already made (you will lose what you have done). You can share a
Layout, if your map design is similar.
If I use standard deviation classification, I am unable to adjust
the # of classes. I can only have four classes at a time, what
happens?
The number of classification with standard deviation is predetermined
in the program. If you choose 1 standard deviation as the interval size,
there are 4 classes. It is not practical to choose a smaller interval
size because it gives more than 7 classes! Remember, the number of
colored classification scheme is better not to pass 7.
